Technology surrounds us. We use our phones, laptops and tablets to connect to the world, and it’s never been easier to get your message out there simply and quickly. Let’s explore How To Write Website Content That Engages And Connects.

However, it doesn’t matter how often we tweet, post, blog or send out flyers (if you are doing it ‘old school’) if the message doesn’t get across to your listener or it connects with the wrong target market.

Writing engaging copy doesn’t have to be difficult. The most important thing is understanding who you are speaking to and considering that with anything you write.

To help you develop your website content writing, here are a few pointers to keep in mind.

How to Write Content That Connects

1. Know who you are talking to

When you write, you have a target market in mind, so get to know them. Understanding their likes, needs and attitudes will help you connect with them. Get inside your audience’s head and write to their requirements, not your own.

2. Talking in their language

You can say the same thing in many different ways, and some ways will be more appealing to your audience than others, so think about your approach before you begin. There is no point in talking in jargon to people who won’t understand it or have a very informal way of writing if your target market is an uptight professional who expects things straight down the line.

3. Keep to the point

Don’t overload your reader with too much information, you can always write a blog post or two on a topic if you have a lot to say. Have one or two clear points that you want to get across and make these points with as little waffle involved as possible.

4. All in the detail

Once you have written your copy, give yourself a little distance from it. Leave it overnight and come back the next day with fresh eyes to edit it. When you are happy with what you have achieved, ask someone to proofread it; mistakes are easy to make and spell check doesn’t pick up everything!
